Sunday is the New Monday with Cambly! How I Doubled My Weekly Pay

By: Meagan

Yeah, I said it!

Sunday is the new Monday when it comes to tutoring with Cambly, and I’m here to tell you why you should run to change your schedule.

Do you often get ready for the day, pour your cup of coffee, and sit down at your computer ready for a full day of reservations only to realize 3 of your 6 reservations have been cancelled for the day?

We’ve all been there, and it’s super frustrating to lose half of your expected pay for the day.

Last-minute cancellations and schedule gaps are the worst, but I’ve taken 2 steps to avoid them.

Not to mention that I doubled my weekly pay in just one week of making my schedule changes.

The 2 steps you need to follow:

Let’s get to it!

Step #1. Snatch up all of those Golden Priority Hours

Let me introduce you to a magical little thing called Cambly Golden Hours.

This is what the Golden Priority Hours look like. Here I’ve selected the black boxes.

Golden Hours appear in Cambly’s Priority Hour Section when more tutors are needed to teach. They are super easy to spot with their golden tag and “30” badge.

When you sign up for Golden Hours, you are guaranteed 30 minutes of pay during that hour, regardless if anyone calls you or not.

Yay for free money!

Well, the money is free when it’s slow, but these Golden Hours are absolutely on fire lately! 🔥

Last week I decided to change up my schedule when I noticed that these golden hours have been available during the weekend for a while now.

I switched out my usual Monday tutoring schedule for Sunday instead to give it a try, and I was so pleasantly surprised with the results.

I aim to tutor for 6 hours on Mondays, so I decided to sign up for 6 Golden Hours on Sunday. I tutored for the ENTIRE 6 hours!

Tutoring for the entire time I spend at my desk is essentially unheard of with my usual Monday schedule because of cancellations.

It was the easiest day of tutoring I’ve had in a long time. I met so many new students, I actually got paid for the whole time spent at my desk, and my regulars were thrilled that I was now available to tutor on Sundays.

Honestly, I didn’t expect my regulars to be so happy about the schedule change.

I mean, who wants to study on a Sunday, right?

So I asked my regulars why they preferred Sundays to Mondays, and the 3 reasons were:

  1. They’re busy planning their weeks at work on Mondays, so they often have to cancel class.
  2. They feel more rejuvenated after a whole weekend of relaxation and retain the lessons better.
  3. It’s the last day for students to pick up lessons before the schedule refreshes on Mondays, so they now have a chance to make up for any missed classes throughout the week.

As it turns out, not only are Golden Hours a saving grace for me, but also for my regulars who now have the chance to pick up a last-minute class with me!

That’s what I call a win-win, CamFam.

Run, don’t walk, to grab those Golden Priority Hours. You can thank me later.

Step #2. Embrace the flexibility of Cambly

Tutors, you work for yourselves! 👏

The beauty of being an independent contractor is that you can create your own schedule, on your own terms, without answering to anyone.

We truly live the dream.

Sorry to all of you who work a 9-5, but for the few of us who don’t: EMBRACE IT

Just because society has ingrained in us to work from Monday-Friday and relax on the weekends, it doesn’t mean you have to.

I used to have this mindset until a couple of weeks ago, but now I’m entirely convinced that Monday, Tuesday, or even Wednesday are the best days to be off work. Pick whichever day works best for you!

Why do you ask?

I live in Montreal, Canada, and everything fun to do is always fully booked on the weekends during the summer months.

Picture of my lunch tacos for attention 😇

I assumed this was true for the rest of the week too, but everything is entirely free from reservations Monday through Wednesday. I’m sure this is probably true in your city as well.

Last Monday, I went to the spa, went out for lunch at a popular patio with my partner, and managed to do a hike that is typically too crowded on the weekends!

GROUND. BREAKING.

I would never have been able to do all of these things on the weekend without reservations.

The feeling of gratitude that I experienced on that day was incredible. It was one of those moments where you realize, “wow, I am in full control of my life and my schedule.”

Folks, this is not a luxury all of us have. Please take advantage of it.

Spread the Word: Monday is the New Sunday

I hope this blog inspires you to change up your routine a little, even for one week!

Whether you want to change it up to have more time to spend with your friends and family, or if you want to maximize your weekly paycheck, I promise you won’t regret it.

Let me know in the comments section if you live a similar lifestyle or if you are planning on making a change; I would love to hear from you!

Happy tutoring, CamFam! 🥰

  1. Great tips. I am so used to having Tuesday and Wednesday as my weekend I often ask my students if that had a nice weekend on Thursday. 🤣 It makes sense to do weekends. Glad I’m not the only one.

    1. Hahaha yes! I find myself doing the same thing on Tuesdays, too funny. Glad you’re taking advantage of the weekend hours!

  2. Me too. I have been having Thursday as my “Day Off” because I have a lot of doc appointments and I am a fiber artist, so having that time works great. I was working 7 days a week 3 or 4 hours in the AM on Cambly, lunch, and then doing my art, but I prefer the time off.

    1. Thank you for your comment, Victoria! It’s fun to change things up a little from time to time. 🥰

  3. Hello, I have been doing this for so long now, I love my Mondays and Tuesday mornings, of course it is not an option for every one. I am on my own so I don’t have any family commitments.

    1. Thank you for your comment, Rebecca! I agree, working weekends is not an option for everyone. We are lucky that we can have flexible schedules.

  4. I don’t know if I should post this as I don’t want a lot of competition, but I only work Friday, Saturday and Sunday and I’m fully booked every week.

    1. Yes! The weekend schedule is seriously underrated. I’m so happy to hear that you have a full schedule, keep up the amazing work!

  5. I am considering doing Cambly full-time. I currently only tutor two hours per day M-F. Then, I switch to working for The Man. This post has helped make my decision. I loathe the 9-5 even when working remote. Thanks for the right message at the right time.

    1. That’s fantastic! It feels so liberating to take charge of your schedule. Best of luck, Todd!😃

    1. Great point! It’s definitely wise to build your schedule around when your students are most available.🥰
